Biography
Stephen Penman is President of
the Yoga Teachers Association of Australia (YTAA), CEO of
the Australasian College of Nutritional and Environmental
Medicine (ACNEM), a member of the International
Association of Yoga Therapists (IAYT) and an associate
member of the Australian Integrative Medicine Association
(AIMA). As such, he is involved in a wide range of yoga,
meditation and integrative medicine research and
activities. He has completed a Masters by Research in the
School of Health Sciences at RMIT University, examining
the practice of Yoga in Australia. Stephen is
Course Co-ordinator of Wellness, Health Enhancement and
Lifestyle Management, a core subject in the new Masters
of Wellness at RMIT, and has tutored a similar course at
Monash University in the medical undergraduate
curriculum. As a yoga teacher, Stephen trained in the
tradition of Swami Vivekananda Yoga Anusandhana Samsthana
(sVYASA) of Bangalore.

An in-depth look at the
results of Yoga In Australia, the world’s largest
yoga survey with 4000 respondents, and the implications
for both yoga teachers and yoga practitioners.
Especially in the areas of lifestyle choices, mental
health, spirituality, medical conditions, and
yoga-related injuries. This session will invite
discussion and will consider the implications for the new
World Yoga Survey.
